Deepest loss is not the end

This morning I received a text message from an old friend. A dear person had passed away in the night.

I called him straight away.

“I’m okay with death,” he said through tears. “But he was such a good friend.”

It seems timely that today Nerida released the official lyric video for ‘Not the End’, a song that grapples with faith and the deepest loss.

Included in Nerida’s In the Midst of the Dark album, ‘Not the End’ was written at the death of her 13-year-old godson.

“In the midst of that deep sorrow, the words ‘this is not the end’ came into my mind,” Nerida said.

“To hold space for the suffering, alongside the fact that death does not have the final word.”

The haunting twilight images of a graveyard contrasted with the brightness of the cross make explicit Nerida’s faith-inspired hope.

Nerida writes with conviction for audiences both within and beyond the church, believing faith is lived in the midst of ordinary life, exploring hope, loss and doubt.
